Hit-and-Run Crash on Maple Avenue Left One Fatality, One Arrested
FRESNO, CA (March 1, 2022) – On Tuesday, authorities arrested 29-year old Daniel Phillips after a fatal hit-and-crash on Belmont Avenue.
Investigators say the collision happened on Belmont and Maple avenues.
Furthermore authorities said that Phillips, who ran a red light and caused the crash, tried to escape but two good samaritans chased him down until law enforcement arrived.
Moreover, surveillance video from a nearby business caught the moment Phillips blew through a red light on Belmont Avenue.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Phillips to a local hospital for treatment. Eventually, the California Highway Patrol took him into custody. Investigators say it’s still too early to say if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Moreover, medical personnel rushed a 70-year-old man and a woman in another vehicle to the hospital. The man later succumbed to his injuries, while the woman sustained critical injuries.
