Matthew Romo Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Arrow Highway [Irwindale, CA]

25-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Truck Collision at Gayhurst Avenue

IRWINDALE, CA (February 23, 2022) – Monday afternoon, Matthew Romo died in a two-vehicle crash on Arrow Highway near Gayhurst Avenue.

Per Irwindale police, the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m., on February 21st. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Police said 25-year-old Romo was driving a 2019 Kia sedan eastbound on Arrow Highway when he collided with a 2016 Ford pickup-truck that was making a left turn to southbound Gayhurst Avenue.

Subsequently, the Kia struck a Southern California Edison utility pole. The impact of the collision caused a power outage in the area.

Medics arrived and pronounced Romo dead at the scene. Meanwhile, crews also transported his female passenger to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition, the uninjured truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.

For about eight hours, authorities closed Arrow Highway between Elton and Lante streets for cleanup and preliminary duties. At this time, the cause of the collision remains under active investigation.
