Wrong-Way Collision on 405 Freeway Left 2 Fatalities, Multiple Injuries

SEAL BEACH, CA (February 21, 2022) – Sunday morning, Steven Harvery and Humberto Arteaga Jr. III died after a car crash on the 405 Freeway.

According to California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 1:30 a.m. on February 20. Crews arrived just north of the San Gabriel River Freeway.

Authorities say the wrong-way accident involved at least seven vehicles. However, the events leading up still remain unclear.

Arteaga, the driver of a black Honda Civic, along with their passenger, Harvery, sustained major injuries and were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Furthermore, two other people were evaluated for injuries at the scene but chose to not seek further medical attention.

Both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Seal Beach Officials are asking anyone with information regarding the fatal collision to call the Westminster CHP office at 714-892-4426. Moreover, an active investigation is currently underway.
