Passengers Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision near San Joaquin River
MODESTO, CA (February 15, 2022) – Early Sunday morning, Jovany Serrano-Caballero and Saul Garcia died in a car crash on Highway 132.
According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m., on February 6. Emergency crews arrived just east of the San Joaquin River.
Upon responding to the scene, officers located a GMC pickup-truck that had crashed into a group of trees off the westbound side of the freeway.
Investigators later learned that the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Moreover, they found its two passengers—23-year-old Serrano-Caballero and 36-year-old Saul Garcia—while its driver was missing. Eventually, medical responders pronounced the two dead at the scene.
Authorities shut down Highway 132 for a period of time due to cleanup and investigation duties.
