63-Year-Old Man Killed in DUI Rollover Accident near 37th Avenue in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (February 1, 2022) – Wednesday morning, Dion Kelly was killed and Richard Anderson was arrested after a crash on Grand Avenue.
The collision took place near 37th and Grand Avenue. Reports indicate that two vehicles were involved.
Officers say Anderson sped past police while traveling east on Grand at 145 miles per hour. Eventually, he collided with another SUV.
Video footage from the scene shows the sedan flipped on its roof, severely damaged.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 63-year-old Kelly, died at the scene.
Meanwhile, crews charged the identified suspect, 20-year-old Anderson with second-degree murder and two counts of endangerment.
Additionally, he was under the influence of Marijuana during the crash and admitted he had been smoking a vape containing the THC, 3 to 4 hours before the crash. Police found a vape pen containing THC, and the urine test resulted positive.
Anderson told officers that he was having mechanical issues with his car. He said that he was driving at high-speed to assess the mechanical repair of his vehicle.
Meanwhile, Anderson is under electronic monitoring.
