Car Accident on Interstate 5 near 78th Street Left 1 Dead, 3 Injured

HAZEL DELL, WA (December 27, 2021) – A 36-year-old Portland resident, Ying Ting died after a collision on Interstate 5 Saturday night.

According to reports, Ting was traveling south on the road when his car broke down near the 78th Street exit for unknown reasons.

Passers-by then stopped to assist, pulling over to the exit’s shoulder in front of Ting’s car. In addition, a third car collided with Ting’s vehicle as well as the three pedestrians and another parked car.

Due to the impact of the collision, Ting died in the crash, according to the state police investigation.

Meanwhile, medics took the two persons who helped  Ting, identified as 20-year-old Kiki Salazar and 21-year-old Jorge Santiago-Joaquin to the hospital for treatment.

Medics also rushed the other motorist, 33-year-old Derek Cunningham to the hospital after the accident.

CHP investigators are now looking into alcohol or drugs as the possible cause of the crash.
