Alec Baldwin Accidentally Shoots and Kills Crew Member Halyna Hutchins, Injures 1 More

SANTA FE, AZ (October 22, 2021) – Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed and Director Joel Souza, 48, was hurt after a prop gun was discharged by Alec Baldwin on set of his new movie “Rust”.

According to officials, the shooting occurred at an old church, where they were filming in Bonanza Creek around 1:50 pm.

During the filming or rehearsing, of a scene investigators say a prop firearm was discharged by Baldwin. At this time, the details surrounding the incident are unclear; however, Hutchins and Souza were both struck.

Hutchins was airlifted by emergency crews to the University of New Mexico Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. There, she was later declared dead.

Meanwhile, Souza was taken to Christus St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment. His current condition has not yet been updated.

Baldwin tweeted on Friday; “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours, I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred…”

Furthermore, the investigation remains open and ongoing.  Once available, additional information will be provided.
