Teen Driver Left Berkeley Traffic Officer Injured after Collision

BERKELEY, CA (September 8, 2021) – On Saturday, a crash on Sacramento Street involving a female teenager left a Berkeley traffic officer injured, according to police reports.

The incident occurred around 1:20 P.M. on Sacramento Street and Dwight Way. 2 BPD officers on motorcycles cruised the southbound Sacramento with lights and sirens.

Initially, the two were responding to reports of a collision in South Berkeley, according to the authorities.

Apparently, most of the drivers in their path pulled over and let the officers pass. However, one driver heading northbound in Sacramento Street continued driving.

Afterwards, the female driver then turned left into Dwight way where she struck one of the officers, resulting in serious injuries.

Eventually, paramedics transported the officer to Highland Hospital regional trauma center for treatment and recovery.

Later on, they identified the female driver as a teenage girl under the age of 18 years old with an out-of-state license plates.

The investigators stated that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
