Fatal Pedestrian Collision near West Drive in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 10, 2021) – Thursday night on July 29, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Niles Street.

The crash took place around 8:51 p.m., at the 1700 block of Niles Street, as per the report. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

California Highway Patrol arrived and found a man in his fifties down on the roadway. Due to the extent of his condition, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle’s driver remained at the site and cooperated with investigators. According to authorities, the driver used the car to obstruct the pedestrian’s body in the road.

In addition, officers say the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk that was about 200 feet away.

Meanwhile, the incident is still under investigation.
