Ephraim Estrada Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Burney Street [Modesto, CA]

Pedestrian Accident on 16th Street Ends with Fatality

MODESTO, CA (July 13, 2021) – Sunday night, 20-year-old Ephraim Estrada of Modesto died after a fatal pedestrian crash on Burney Street.

The fatal accident occurred around 11:00 p.m., at the intersection of Burney and 16th Street. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

According to reports, 34-year-old Jesus Lemus struck 20-year-old Ephraim Joel Estrada while he was attempting to light fireworks.

Witnesses said Lemus was driving around 50 to 60 miles per hour at the time, with a 12-year-old passenger in the car with him.

Following the collision, Lemus fled the scene, only to inform authorities that he may have struck something earlier because he was distracted by fireworks.

Estrada suffered severe injuries as a result of the accident and died at the scene.

Eventually, Lemus was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing great bodily harm, child endangerment, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter. Bail was set at $1 million.

Furthermore, the loved ones of the victim made a GoFundMe page to help his family during this time.
