Man Pushing Disabled Car in Long Beach Killed by Hit-And-Run Driver
LONG BEACH, CA (July 13 , 2021) – A hit-and-run driver claimed the life of Darnell Bluitt while he was helping a woman with her disabled vehicle on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m., on Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue near the Long Beach (710) Freeway overpass.
A disabled 1993 Acura sedan on Artesia Boulevard was being pushed by two men including a 43-year-old Compton woman steering the vehicle.
Shortly after, a 2010 GMC truck struck them from behind, injuring one of the men and the woman steering the Acura. Following the impact, the GMC driver immediately fled the scene and headed to a nearby neighborhood.
Authorities later arrested the suspect and identified him as 57-year-old Patrick Mount, of Long Beach.
Moreover, the woman steering the Acura received injuries in the crash but is now in a stable condition. However, 54-year-old Darnell Bluitt of Compton, died at the scene of the incident.
At this time, the Long Beach authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the hit-and-run crash.
