Two Injured after DUI Pursuit Collision on Santa Clara Avenue in Orange
ORANGE, CA (May 4, 2021) – Saturday night on April 24, Jose Gelacio Carreravasquez, 47, was charged after a chase that resulted in a car accident.
The chase began at about 8:20 p.m. on the border of Villa Park and Orange, as stated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Carreravasquez was headed south on Tustin Avenue in a pickup-truck when he ran a red light and struck a van that was heading east on Santa Clara Avenue. As officers attempted to pull him over, he lead police on a pursuit that hit speeds north of 100 mph.
Two passengers in the van were injured as a result of the impact. One occupant was admitted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The surrounding area was closed for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. But, the roadway has since reopened.
Carreravasquez was charged with two charges of eluding police resulting in physical harm. In addition, he was charged with DUI resulting in injury, hit-and-run resulting in injury, and arson.
