Car Plunges off Cliff, Kills Elizabeth Correia and Maria Teixeira [Bodega Bay, CA]
Mother and Daughter Deceased after Plunging Down Cliff into Rocky Beach in Bodega Bay
BODEGA BAY, CA (April 6, 2021) – Saturday morning, Elizabeth Correia and Maria Teixeira were killed after plunging into the Pacific Ocean.
Officers first responded to the scene just after 11:30 a.m. Per reports, the two Dublin residents were traveling in a gold Toyota Rav4.
CHP says the Toyota was heading west through the parking lot at an unknown speed when it suddenly struck a log barrier on the perimeter and continued over the cliff.
Crews located the vehicle on its roof on the rocks below. Witnesses later told CHP that they did not see the vehicle speeding or driving unsafely prior to the accident.
Shortly after, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office sent a helicopter to the scene. By the time firefighters arrived, both women had died.
Elizabeth Correia, 41, had been teaching at Lydiksen Elementary for 16 years. The school district said “Elizabeth touched the lives of many of her students and colleagues.”
In addition, 64-year-old Teixiera had been a custodian at Montevideo Elementary since 2000. The principal wrote, “She was a wonderful part of our community and was well-loved by staff, students and parents.”
An active investigation to determine further details is still underway. Once available, more information will be given.
