At Least 13 Dead after Semi-Truck Collision on State Route 115 [Holtville, CA]
Dozens of Passengers Involved in Fatal Accident near U.S.-Mexico Border in Holtville
HOLTVILLE, CA (March 2, 2021) – Tuesday morning, at least 13 people were killed in a semi-truck collision on State Route 115, near Norrish Road.
The events leading up to the deadly accident are still unknown. However, reports show that a big-rig and Ford Expedition were involved. Police arrived to the scene about 50 miles west of Arizona and 10 miles north of the border.
Due to the impact of the crash, first responders pronounced 14 people dead on scene. One died at the hospital.
In addition, paramedics took two passengers to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. Four were airlifted to the trauma center at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Authorities identified the big rig driver as 68 year-old Joel Beltran of El Centro. He is in the hospital.
There were a total of 25 passengers inside the Ford Expedition SUV that crashed with the semi-truck full of gravel. It was designed to hold no more than eight people. Authorities closed State Route 115 for a brief time during the investigation. However, the roadway has reopened.
