Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash near Panama Lane and Betty Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 12, 2021) – A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night in south Bakersfield, officials said.
The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Panama Lane and Betty Street.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the woman was crossing the roadway when a silver or white Mercedes sedan struck her. While lying in the street, a red Chevrolet Silverado also hit her.
Paramedics attempted saving the woman, but she died at the scene.
Authorities will release the identity of the victim once family members are properly notified.
The two involved vehicles fled before authorities arrived.
Crews closed the Panama Lane for east and westbound traffic between Lowry Street and Brahma Street. They advised drivers to use alternate routes.
Police are looking for the suspected vehicles in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department at (661) 317-7111.
