Woman Killed, Gustavo Hernandez Injured in Car Crash on Highway 99 [TIPTON, CA]

Woman Trying to Avoid Animal in Roadway Dies after Crash Tipton, Gustavo Hernandez Injured

 
TIPTON, CA (January 7, 2021) – A young woman was killed and her passenger was injured following a car accident Thursday last week in Tipton.
 
The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, just south of Avenue 152.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving northbound in the first lane of the highway. She may have swerved for an animal in the roadway, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. She then collided into a brick wall and a tree bordering the freeway.
 
As a result, the woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only described her as a 19-year-old Woodville resident.
 
The male passenger in the car, 20-year-old Gustavo Hernandez, also from Woodville, sustained a broken arm. Paramedics took him to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
 
Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in this crash.
 
The accident is under investigation.
