Jessica Lightner Dead in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (January 13, 2021) — Officials have identified Jessica Lightner, 33, as the pedestrian hit and killed by a vehicle in Phoenix on Saturday, December 26.
Information from the Phoenix Police Department indicated that a 1997 Nissan truck was westbound on Oak Street when it hit Lightner. The collision happened at about 1:00 a.m. on Oak Street near 30th Street.
Medical responders pronounced Lightner dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, witnesses helped police locate the Nissan truck in a neighborhood less than a half-mile from where it struck Lightner. And at about 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, the driver of the truck and a passenger called the police and turned themselves in.
The police subsequently arrested the driver, identified as 35-year-old Sergio Campa Najera. After that, they booked him into the Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
