Motorcyclist Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver at 24th and Market Streets
OAKLAND, CA (December 7, 2020) – A motorcyclist died following a hit-and-run crash Monday afternoon in Oakland.
The crash happened around 5:08 p.m. at the intersection of 24th and Market streets.
Police said the man was riding a Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle westbound on 24th Street when he collided with a purple BMW 650i that was going southbound on Market Street.
The impact ejected the rider off his bike onto the roadway. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he later died.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Richard Wiltz, 48, of Antioch.
The driver of the BMW fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind, police said.
Police have not yet said if the BMW driver was a man or woman.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the BMW driver. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
