CASA DE ORO-MOUNT HELIX, CA (November 20, 2020) — A 63-year-old man was injured in a pedestrian accident on Grandview Drive Thursday morning.
The accident happened at approximately 7 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol. A 52-year-old woman was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound on a narrow two-lane road. The sun reportedly got into her eyes, causing her to drive to the right shoulder of the road. From there, she hit a trash can and then the male pedestrian who was walking on the shoulder.
The Explorer subsequently spun to the left, crashed into an embankment, and then rested on its passenger side.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Based on preliminary findings, the woman was driving around 35 to 45 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The pedestrian, meanwhile, was wearing earbuds and walking westward against traffic.
