Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Patrolling Benicia Police Officer Identified
BENICIA, CA (November 11, 2020) – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a police patrol vehicle early Wednesday morning in Benicia.
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. in the 1900 block of East 2nd Street near 780 Freeway.
According to reports, an on-duty Benicia officer was traveling in the area when he struck the pedestrian with his patrol car.
Paramedics immediately responded and performed life-saving efforts, but the victim died at the scene.
The Solano County Coroner’s Office later identified the pedestrian as 48-year-old Scott Hamers.
The officer was not responding to a call for service at the time of the collision, police said. He was not injured.
Further investigation is underway.
