Man Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train on Montecito Street in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 14, 2020) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train on Montecito Street, Wednesday evening.
According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, the incident happened at about 7:00 PM. The pedestrian was walking southbound on the tracks. Then, an Amtrak train hit him near the Santa Barbara Station.
Emergency crews pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The incident reportedly affected train traffic for several hours.
Santa Barbara police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Investigators ask witnesses to cooperate and reach out. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
