Fatal Trolley Crash near Merlin Drive in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 28, 2020) – A 22-year-old man died in a trolley crash late Monday evening in San Diego.
The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Merlin Drive and Imperial Avenue, just east of Valencia Parkway.
According to San Diego police, a Toyota Prius was traveling southbound on 60th Street toward Imperial Avenue. It then drove past a trolley crossing gate and was struck by an eastbound trolley. The impact pushed the Prius about 100 feet down the tracks.
The man driving the Prius, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene. His name was not immediately available pending notification of his family members.
