Speeding Pickup Truck Involved in Deadly Rear-End Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (September 26, 2020) – A man died following a rear-end crash early Saturday morning in Long Beach, police said.
The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway, also known as Highway 1, at Technology Place.
According to police, a 2013 Ram 1500 pickup truck was speeding westbound on the highway when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer. The tractor was stopped at a red light and beginning to accelerate through a green light west of Technology Place.
Responding paramedics rushed the driver of the pickup truck to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities only identified the deceased as a 40-year-old Long Beach resident. He was a sole occupant of the pickup. They did not release his name pending family notification.
It was not immediately known if distracted or impaired driving were factors in the crash.
