Pedestrian Dies in Morning San Onofre Train Crash near Trestles Beach
SAN ONOFRE, CA (September 18, 2020) – A pedestrian was killed in a train crash Friday morning in the San Onofre area, according to sheriff’s officials.
The crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. near Trestles Beach, just east of the mouth of San Mateo Creek.
Officials said a Metrolink commuter train struck the pedestrian in unclear circumstances.
The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The coroner’s office did not publicly identified them pending next of kin notification.
It was still unknown why the unidentified pedestrian got onto the rails in the path of the Metrolink train.
Further investigation is underway.
