Michael Thomas Killed, DUI Driver Arrested after Motorcycle Crash on Highway 84 [Newark, CA]
Michael Thomas Identified in Fatal Newark Motorcycle Crash
NEWARK, CA (September 13, 2020) – Authorities identified 40-year-old Michael D. Thomas of Palo Alto as the motorcyclist killed in a DUI crash on Highway 84, early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 2:20 AM. Due to unknown circumstances, a BMW sedan hit a motorcycle in the eastbound lanes of Highway 84 near Thornton Avenue.
Emergency crews pronounced Thomas dead at the scene.
As per reports, a second motorcyclist sustained injuries in the collision. The rider was then transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
Officers later arrested the BMW driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, authorities did not release the identity of the suspect.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Officials will release additional information once it becomes available.
