Christopher Herrera Killed, Karen Floresarrelano Detained in La Verne Car Accident
LA VERNE, CA (September 16, 2020) — A 40-year-old La Habra resident identified as Christopher Herrera died after a DUI crash on Monday, September 14.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at around 9:00 p.m., a woman drove a white 2012 BMW 528i eastbound in the No. 3 lane on the Foothill Freeway east of Fruit Street. Then the vehicle struck Herrera who is helping a disabled driver on the right shoulder of the freeway.
Witnesses said that the BMW was driven erratically and nearly crashed into vehicles.
Herrera, the person struck by the BMW, died due to injuries sustained in the incident.
Footage from the scene showed the driver, identified by the CHP as 24-year-old Karen D. Floresarrelano, in custody in the back seat of a CHP SUV. Investigators examined her car, which was stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway.
Authorities said that alcohol is a factor in the incident, the CHP said.
Officers booked Floresarrelano at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s San Dimas station.
