Deadly Rollover Crash on 15 Freeway near Gopher Canyon Road
HIDDEN MEADOWS, CA (September 15, 2020) – One person was killed and another one was badly injured in a car crash early Tuesday morning in Hidden Meadows.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on 15 Freeway, just south of Gopher Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Lexus ES 350 carrying two young men was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it veered off the freeway.
The sedan traveled across a dirt-and-asphalt center median, went up a brushy embankment and struck a wire guardrail at the top of the slope. It then overturned several times down the hill, ejecting the driver.
Arriving paramedics rushed both men to Palomar Medical Center, where the driver later died.
The passenger was treated for severe injuries.
Authorities only identified the driver as a San Jacinto man and the passenger a Perris resident. Both were 21 years old.
Neither man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the CHP. Intoxication may have played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.
