Man Dead after Motorcycle Crash on Highway 1 near Garrapata Creek Bridge
BIG SUR, CA (August 7, 2020) —One man is dead and another injured after a motorcycle crash on Highway 1 on Monday, August 3.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just before 2 p.m. on southbound Highway 1 just north of the Garrapata Creek Bridge.
A 37-year-old Riverside woman that had been parked on the shoulder of the southbound lane in a 2015 Honda tried to make a U-turn into the northbound lane. Two motorcyclists hit the side of her vehicle.
One of them, a 37-year-old Pacific Grove man on a 2010 Yamaha, died on impact. A 61-year-old Monterey man on a 2015 BMW had minor injuries.
The motorcyclists were believed to be going around 55 mph at the time of the incident. Officials do not consider alcohol or drugs as a contributing factor to the crash, CHP said.
