Motorcyclist Dies after Crashing Head-On with SUV in San Mateo
SAN MATEO, CA (August 7, 2020) – A man who died in a motorcycle crash Friday morning in San Mateo has been identified by authorities.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and 12th Avenue.
Police said Ian Anthony Mitchell, 29, of Redwood City was riding his motorcycle southbound on El Camino Real. For unknown reasons, he crossed into the northbound lane, where a northbound SUV struck him head-on.
Officers arrived minutes later and found Mitchell on the pavement with no pulse. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
CHP officials are still conducting their investigation.
