Merced Woman Fatally Struck by SUV while Running Across Highway 99
MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 5, 2020) – A woman who died in a pedestrian Crash early Wednesday morning on Highway 99 has been identified.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway, just between Sultana Drive and Westside Boulevard.
CHP officials said Charlene Webb, 48, of Merced was initially traveling with a man in a car heading south on the highway. She exited from the car for unknown reasons and ran across the highway. A Toyota SUV then struck her in traffic lanes.
As a result, Webb suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The Toyota driver pulled over after the crash, and reportedly moved Webb’s body from the road to the median while waiting for first responders.
The highway patrol did not make any arrests at the crash scene. Further investigation is underway.
