Woman Using Walker Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Idyllwild Circle
CHICO, CA (August 6, 2020) – A woman died in a pedestrian crash Thursday morning in Chico, police said.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Idyllwild Circle, just between Goldeneye Court and Yosemite Drive.
Police said the woman was crossing the road, heading south on Yosemite Drive, using a walker. Moments later, a green Chevrolet made a right turn onto Idyllwild Circle and struck her. The woman fell and hit her head, causing her fatal injuries. She died at the scene.
Coroner’s officials later identified the victim as 92-year-old Patricia Coombes.
The driver, 55-year-old Jiang Junda, told police that the sun was in his eyes and he did not see Coombes crossing the street. He was traveling no faster than 10 mph.
Police said Junda did not show any symptoms of intoxication and voluntarily submitted to a blood test.
The crash closed the roadway for approximately 5 hours.
