Gilberto Mendiola Killed in Rollover Crash on Ingomar Road [GUSTINE, CA]

Driver Dies after Car Overturns Down Embankment on Ingomar Road in Gustine

 
GUSTINE, CA (July 19, 2020) – The Merced County Coroner’s Office identified a driver killed in rollover crash last Sunday as 20-year-old Gilberto Salvador Gomez Mendiola.
 
The crash happened around 4:21 a.m. on July 19, in the area of Ingomar Road north of Husman Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, Mendiola was driving a white Nissan southbound on Ingomar Road. For unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to veer off the roadway and travel down an embankment.
 
The Nissan then rolled over on its side, causing the left side of the vehicle being submerged underwater.
 
Mendiola was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Coroner’s spokesman Deputy Daryl Allen said Mendiola is from San Juan Capistrano but recently had been living and working in Gustine.
 
It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
 
CHP officials are still investigating to determine the exact cause of the accident.
