Las Vegas Man Dead, Robert Barnard Involved in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 24, 2020) – A 33-year-old Las Vegas man died in a motorcycle accident on 5 Freeway, Friday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Twisselman Road. A group of motorcyclist was northbound on 5 Freeway in the No. 1 lane. Then, a crash occurred within the group involving two motorcycles.
A 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle veered to the right and across the No. 2 lane. Meanwhile, the second motorcycle, a 2015 Kawasaki, veered to the left and collided with a 2004 Toyota driven by 63-year-old Robert Barnard. The impact of the crash ejected the Kawasaki rider.
To avoid further collisions, the Toyota crossed the median. However, it collided with a 2013 Kia driven by 36-year-old Victoria Villa Gomez.
Emergency crews pronounced the Kawasaki rider dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The Harley rider sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital.
As per reports, Barnard and Gomez did not sustain serious injuries.
