Fatal Car Crash on Monte Vista Avenue near Base Line Road in Claremont

CLAREMONT, CA (July 22, 2020) – A 20-year-old Montclair man died following a car crash on Monte Vista Avenue, Wednesday evening.

According to the Claremont Police Department, the incident happened at about 9:30 PM. For reasons still under investigation, a northbound vehicle ran a red light. Then, the driver struck an eastbound vehicle near Base Line Road.

The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to spin and collide with a third vehicle.

However, the driver of the first vehicle did not stop after the collision. Instead, he continued north before crashing through a fence on the northeast corner of the intersection. The vehicle then came to rest on an embankment.

Emergency crews transported the driver to Pomona Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. At 3:04 AM, Thursday, he was pronounced dead. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.

Claremont police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Officials will release additional information once it becomes available.
