Brandon Gonzales Killed in Rollover Crash on Golden State Avenue [BAKERSFIELD, CA]

Driver Dies after SUV Overturns on Golden State Avenue in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 19, 2020) – A man died in a rollover crash Sunday afternoon in Bakersfield, CHP officials said.
 
The crash happened just before 3:00 p.m. on Golden State Avenue, also known as Highway 204, east of Airport Drive.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Blazer was heading westbound at a high rate of speed. As the driver approached a slower vehicle traveling ahead of him, he swerved to the left.
 
Due to the unsafe turning movement, the SUV lost control and overturned on its roof. The driver was ejected onto the roadway and suffered major injuries.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the driver to Kern Medical Hospital, where he later died.
 
The coroner’s office identified the victim as 22-year-old Brandon Michael Gonzales.
 
Two passengers in the SUV suffered severe injuries and were also hospitalized.
 
CHP officials said alcohol and/or drugs appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
