Man Struck and Killed by Big Rig on 5 Freeway [Sun Valley, CA]

Man Fatally Struck by Big Rig on 5 Freeway near Lankershim Boulevard

 
SUN VALLEY, CA (July 22, 2020) — A 24-year-old Anaheim man was struck and killed by a big rig on 5 Freeway in Sun Valley on Sunday, July 19.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on the southbound side near the Lankershim Boulevard offramp. The big rig hit him around 10:40 p.m. and the semi’s driver did not stop.
 
The man died at the scene. He was not yet publicly identified, said CHP spokesman Officer Vicente Ramirez.
 
CHP detectives believe at least two men were out on the freeway just before the big rig hit the 24-year-old.
 
Both were down in lanes following a previous crash.
 
But CHP officials did not have details of how many cars were part of the earlier crash. Ramirez said detectives believe the fatal victim rode a motorcycle.
 
The big rig traveled in a darkly lit area of the freeway when it apparently struck the victim. Ramirez said there’s a question if the driver even knew that he had stuck someone.
 
It is not clear if the other victim, a 22-year-old man, was struck by the big rig or had injuries in the earlier incident. Medics rushed him with major injuries to a hospital.
