Jorge Perez Arrested in Fatal DUI Accident on Highway 101 [Ventura, CA]

Jorge Perez Arrested, One Dead, Two Injured in Ventura Fatal DUI Rollover Crash

 
VENTURA, CA (July 22, 2020) — A 19-year-old man identified as Jorge Angel Perez, of Compton, was arrested after a fatal DUI crash on Saturday, July 18.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, the crash took place on the northbound side of Highway 101 around 2:00 a.m. north of Telephone Road.
 
CHP officials said Perez drove a 2007 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed as he approached the transition to Highway 126. Perez swerved to prevent crashing into a slower-moving car in front of him and lost control of the vehicle.
 
The car ran off the highway and rolled over an embankment and ended up on its roof. Three other people, all from Compton, were also in the vehicle.
 
The force of the collision ejected a 21-year-old passenger who did not wear a seat belt from the vehicle. The person had fatal injuries, officials stated. Officials have not released the identity of the man as of Monday pending notification of relatives.
 
Perez and the two other passengers, age 18 and 19, wore their seat belts. Medics rushed the two surviving passengers to Ventura County Medical Center with moderate injuries.
 
Perez had minor injuries, the CHP reported. Officers booked him into Ventura County jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
The accident is still under investigation.
