12-Year-Old Yarely Jasso-Gomez Dies after DUI Hit-and-Run in Modesto
MODESTO, CA (July 19, 2020) – Authorities identified 12-year-old Yarely Jasso-Gomez as the victim killed in a DUI crash in Modesto, Sunday evening.
According to the Modesto Police Department, the incident happened at about 7:00 PM. A 2006 Jeep Laredo, driven by 45-year-old Kelley Ball of Modesto, ran a red light and broadsided a vehicle that was making a left turn from Plaza Parkway to Sisk Road.
Emergency crews pronounced Yarely dead at the scene. Meanwhile, an air ambulance transported her 15-year-old brother to a Bay Area hospital with major injuries. The siblings’ father was taken to a local area hospital with serious injuries, while their mother sustained minor injuries.
Ball fled the scene on foot and ran into a nearby Walmart, where she allegedly attempted to take a facemask and pair of shoes. Eventually, responding officers arrested her.
Authorities charged Ball with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit-and-run, vandalism, and felony DUI. As per reports, Ball had previous DUI convictions.
