Susan Hye Killed, William Hye and Mark Weldon Injured in Accident on 5 Freeway [Maytown, WA]

Susan Hye Identified as Woman Struck, Killed by Vehicle at Maytown Rest Area

 
MAYTOWN, WA (July 17, 2020) – Authorities identified 73-year-old Susan Hye of Lodi, California as the pedestrian killed in an accident on 5 Freeway, Friday afternoon.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:00 PM. A 2015 Ford Explorer was heading to the passenger vehicle parking side of the rest area from southbound 5 Freeway. Then, the Ford struck a motorcycle parked in the first parking stall on the west side of the parking area.
 
The Ford also struck a parked 2019 Subaru in the second stall and a fourth vehicle parked in the fourth stall.
 
The occupants of the Subaru were standing outside their vehicle when the SUV struck them. One of the occupants, identified as Hye, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the second occupant, identified as 68-year-old William Hye, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with minor injuries.
 
As per reports, the motorcyclist, identified as 71-year-old Mark Weldon of Ashburn, Virginia, also sustained injuries. But the driver of the fourth vehicle, identified as William McIntyre of Kelse did not suffer any injuries.
 
Troopers believe that the SUV driver, identified as 28-year-old Jessica Valentine of Winlock, had a possible medical episode. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
