Rider Daniel Figueroa Dead in Motorcycle Accident on Highway 33 [Maricopa, CA]

Daniel Figueroa Killed after Maricopa Motorcycle Crash

 
MARICOPA, CA (July 21, 2020) — A motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon while riding on Highway 33 in Los Padres National Forest above Ojai.
 
The collision was reported around 12:15 p.m. near the Sespe Gorge area on the state route also known as Maricopa Highway. Highway 33 is popular among motorcycle riders for its views of national forest land and path through rugged backcountry.
 
42-year-old Daniel Figueroa from Santa Barbara rode a 2016 Ducati motorcycle while traveling southbound on Highway 33. A driver in a 2015 Jeep traveled within the lane of southbound Highway 33 at the same time. As a result, the Jeep and the motorcycle collided.
 
The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Figueroa died at the scene.
 
Two other motorcycle riders were southbound on Highway 33 directly behind Figueroa. They both took action to avoid the crash, which caused them to be ejected from their motorcycles. As a result, paramedics transported both to Ventura County Medical Center with moderate injuries.
 
The driver of the Jeep did not sustain any injuries.
 
Highway 33 closed at the site of the crash for about four hours while CHP conducted an investigation.
