Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train in Flagstaff
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (July 21, 2020) — A train fatally hit 24-year-old Allan Shaffer in Flagstaff Sunday afternoon.
According to the police, the collision took place at the Amtrak train station at Historic Route 66 near Beaver Street.
An initial investigation revealed that Shaffer was walking southbound across the tracks, and then he turned to wave at a westbound train. When a southbound train approached, Shaffer tried to run out of the way. However, he was unable to get off the tracks completely and was struck.
Reports indicated that Shaffer received medical help after the collision. Unfortunately, he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, the police are still investigating the fatal accident. They said they will continue to look through the surveillance videos from the station.
