Craigneshia Smith Killed in Crash on Eighth Street [OAKLAND, CA]

Woman Dies after Crashing Her Minivan into Chinatown District

 
OAKLAND, CA (July 15, 2020) – A woman who died in a crash Wednesday night in the Chinatown district has been identified by authorities.
 
The crash happened around 6:53 p.m. on July 15, in the 200 block of Eighth Street.
 
Police said a Ford Windstar minivan was traveling westbound when it veered to the right. It then struck a fire hydrant and continued across Harrison Street where it hit a streetlight and then a building.
 
Paramedics arrived and found the minivan driver with severe injuries. They rushed her to a hospital, where she later died.
 
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Craigneshia Smith, 38, of Oakland.
 
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police have said speed appears to be a factor in the crash but it has not been determined yet if drugs or alcohol were also factors.
