Bicyclist Seriously Injured in DUI Crash on Blackstone Avenue [Fresno, CA]

Cyclist in Critical Condition after DUI Crash on Blackstone Avenue near Shields Avenue

 
FRESNO, CA (July 17, 2020) – A bicyclist suffered critical injuries in a DUI crash on Blackstone Avenue, early Friday evening.
 
According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident happened at about 5:30 PM. A vehicle reportedly swerved and clipped a bicyclist near Shield Avenue. The collision caused the bicyclist to lose control before slamming into the vehicle’s windshield.
 
The vehicle did not stop and continued traveling for a short distance. When the driver stopped, the cyclist fell off the vehicle and hit his head.
 
Emergency crews rushed the bicyclist to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
 
Officers believe that the driver passed out on the wheel as the vehicle dragged the bicyclist. Also, responders say they found drugs in the vehicle.
 
It is unknown whether or not the driver was arrested. Fresno police will release additional information once it becomes available.
