Man Injured in Train Accident on Chapman Loop [STEILACOOM, WA]

Train Hits and Injures Pedestrian in Steilacoom

 
STEILACOOM, WA (July 16, 2020) – A 23-year-old man suffered injuries in a train accident on Chapman Loop in Steilacoom.
 
The Tuesday afternoon incident took place in the extreme southwest corner of the town. A northbound BNSF freight train struck the pedestrian at about 4 p.m.
 
Rescuers had difficulty reaching the scene due to the steep terrain. A fireboat of West Pierce Fire and Rescue was sent to the area to rescue the pedestrian. The rescuers then transferred him to shore at Saltar’s Point Elementary School where a helicopter was waiting.
 
The man was initially being taken to Harborview Medical Center. However, his condition deteriorated, so the rescuers took him instead to Madigan Army Medical Center.
 
Meanwhile, there were no clear details on how the collision happened. An investigation is underway to also determine the cause of the incident.
