Injuries Sustained in Patrol Car Accident on 5th Street and Idaho Street [ELKO, NV]

Prisoner and Other People Injured in Elko Crash

 
ELKO, NV (July 14, 2020) – An unruly prisoner reportedly caused an accident on 5th Street and Idaho Street in Elko Saturday night.
 
According to the Elko police, an officer of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) was driving a Dodge Charger patrol vehicle, transporting the prisoner to the Elko County Jail.
 
The prisoner was handcuffed and sitting in the back seat but was combative, yelling and spitting at the officer. The officer momentarily looked back at the prisoner, taking his attention from the roadway. That was when the patrol vehicle collided with an F-150 pickup truck at the intersection of Fifth Street and Idaho Street.
 
The impact caused the pickup truck to flip and rest upside down. The vehicle and the BIA vehicle had major damage from the crash.
 
Meanwhile, occupants of both vehicles, including the prisoner, suffered minor injuries. It was not clear, however, whether they were transported to a hospital.
 
The police and the Nevada Highway Patrol are still investigating the crash.
