14-Year-Old Boy Killed, 12-Year-Old Injured in ATV Crash on Wendell Phillips Road [SUNNYSIDE, WA]

ATV Crash on Wendell Phillips Road in Sunnyside Claims Boy’s Life, Injures His Brother

 
SUNNYSIDE, WA (July 16, 2020) – An ATV Crash on Wendell Phillips Road left a 14-year-old dead and his 12-year-old brother injured Tuesday afternoon.
 
Based on a news release from the Yakima Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at around 4:45 p.m. in the 450 block of Wendell Phillips Road.
 
The 14-year-old boy was driving the ATV where his 12-year-old brother was a passenger. They reportedly drove onto Wendell Phillips Road without stopping. And then, the ATV collided with a 1994 Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on the same road.
 
The 14-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. His 12-year-old brother was flown to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland due to life-threatening injuries.
 
Meanwhile, there was no word on whether the 18-year-old Sunnyside man driving the pickup truck was hurt in the crash.
 
The deputies said there were no signs that intoxicants played a role in the crash. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is conducting further investigation.
