Woman Dead in Four-Car Crash on Highway 101 [Salinas, CA]

19-Year-Old Woman Killed in Four-Car Crash on Highway 101 and Esperanza Road

 
SALINAS, CA (July 15, 2020) — A 19-year-old woman was dead in a four-car crash on Highway 101 at about 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 13.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, the woman traveled north on Highway 101 near Chualar in the slow lane. She was seated in the rear passenger seat of a Nissan Sentra.
 
A 20-year-old woman sat in the front passenger seat. CHP did not provide any details about the driver of the vehicle.
 
The Sentra stopped behind a Volkswagen Jetta, due to an incident at 101 and Esperanza Road. The Jetta was stopped at a Dodge Ram towing a flatbed trailer, said CHP officials.
 
A person traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Silverado northbound in the same lane didn’t stop in time. It rear-ended the Sentra and created a four-car pile-up. The Silverado pushed the Sentra, occupied by three people, into the Volkswagen Jetta, which pushed into the flatbed trailer.
 
CHP said the 19-year-old woman died at the scene. Once officials notified her family of her death, the Monterey County Coroner’s office will release her identity.
 
The reason behind the crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash, CHP said.
