One Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on South Bay Freeway near Briarwood Road [SAN DIEGO, CA]

Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on South Bay Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 14, 2020) – One person died following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in San Diego, according to the CHP.
 
The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. on South Bay Freeway, also known as 54 Freeway, just west of Briarwood Road.
 
CHP officials said a silver Honda SUV was heading west on the freeway. It then approached a Chevrolet pickup truck that was stopped in one of the lanes due to traffic from earlier fatal single-vehicle crash.
 
The Honda rear-ended the Chevrolet, causing major damage to the pickup.
 
Arriving units pronounced the passenger in the Honda dead at the scene. They did not release the identity of the victim pending family notification.
 
The female driver of the Chevrolet suffered major injuries. Paramedics took her to a hospital in an unknown condition.
 
Meanwhile, the Honda driver ran away from the crash and remained at large.
 
Authorities urged anyone with information about the crash or the whereabouts of the Honda driver to call the CHP’s San Diego office at 858-293-6000.
