Mark Neives-Pina Killed in DUI Crash on 5 Freeway [GLENN COUNTY, CA]

Jose Neives Arrested for DUI after Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway in Glenn County

 
GLENN COUNTY, CA (July 11, 2020) – An 11-year-old boy who died in a DUI crash early Saturday morning in Glenn County has been identified as Mark Neives-Pina.
 
The crash happened around 12:05 a.m. on 5 Freeway, just south of County Road 60.
 
Brian Lam, 58, of Auburn, Washington, was driving a Freightliner north of the freeway when he lost control for unknown reasons. The tractor-trailer subsequently traveled into the center median of the freeway. Lam turned back to the right but was unable to regain control of his vehicle. The truck continued north and rolled onto its side, blocking all northbound lanes of the freeway.
 
A Toyota SUV, driven by 48-year-old Jose Neives of San Jose, then crashed into it.
 
As a result, Neives-Pina, who was a passenger in the Toyota, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Marie Villasenor, 46, of San Jose, who was another passenger in the Toyota, suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center.
 
Neives suffered moderate injuries and was also hospitalized. Police later arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
Meanwhile, Lam only sustained minor injuries.
 
Further investigation is underway.
