1 Dead, Elyzah Leon Hospitalized after Rollover Car Accident on 80 Freeway
PERSHING COUNTY, NV (July 12, 2020) – A young passenger died and the driver sustained injuries in a crash on 80 Freeway, Sunday afternoon.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:45 PM. A westbound gray Nissan Maxima, driven by 18-year-old Elyzah Leon of Winnemucca, left the paved portion of the roadway into the dirt median.
Then, the vehicle struck a construction barrel. Leon then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel across the westbound travel lanes. After running off the roadway, the vehicle overturned near mile marker 156.
The impact of the crash ejected both driver and passenger from the vehicle.
Emergency responders pronounced a passenger, described as a female juvenile from Winnemucca, dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, Leon was transported to Humboldt General Hospital.
The Northern Command East Multi-disciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
